Your garbage disposal is an extremely useful tool in the kitchen, but it has its limitations. Prevent certain items from going into the disposal, use it properly, and maintain it regularly to keep your garbage disposal working in peak condition.

Make sure plenty of water goes down with the debris when you run the disposal. When you shut it off, keep running the water for several seconds to further flush down debris.
